Fireplace Service Technician – Troy
Location: 31 Adams Street, Troy NY – This position will require travel on a daily basis. The travel will be primarily to clients’ homes in all types of weather. Travel may also be required on occasion to attend training programs that require an overnight(s) stay.

Schedule: Mon-Fri 7:30am – 4:00pm with a half hour break for lunch. Must be available to work both regular and extended business hours. Flexibility is necessary in order to complete the scheduled work each day. Sept 1st- Dec 31st, must be able to work Mon-Sat, scheduled work on Saturdays 7:30am – 12pm with a work week ranging from 40-50 hours.
Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Fireplace Service Technician to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting various types of fireplaces and heating appliances, including gas, wood, pellet, and electric units. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and committed to delivering top-tier service to homeowners and builders alike.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair issues with gas, wood-burning, pellet-burning, and electric fireplaces, stoves, and inserts.
- Perform routine service and maintenance, including cleaning burners, checking pilot lights, adjusting gas pressures, and inspecting venting systems.
- Conduct safety inspections and verify proper installation and operation of all components.
- Document service calls thoroughly, including work performed, parts used, and recommended follow-up.
- Educate customers on safe operation and care of their fireplace systems.
- Coordinate with office staff to schedule follow-up appointments or order necessary parts.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in clean, working order.
- Stay up to date with product lines, service bulletins, and safety regulations.
- Comply with all building codes, safety standards, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Represent the company in a professional manner on job sites and in customer homes.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in fireplace service, HVAC, gas fitting, or appliance repair preferred.
- Knowledge of gas systems, thermopiles, valves, ignition systems, and venting configurations is a plus
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and installation instructions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Must be able to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle service paperwork.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- Must be able to pass background check.
Preferred Certifications
- NFI (National Fireplace Institute) Certification or willingness to obtain.
- HVAC or related mechanical certifications.
- OSHA 10/30 certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work standing on their feet for the entire shift. Must be able to move up and down stairs. Must be able to lift up to 125lbs.
- Comfortable working on ladders, roofs, and in tight or confined spaces.
- Willingness to work in varying indoor and outdoor conditions, including attics and crawl spaces.
